I called for the manager in charge, Mason, and gave him a summary of what had happened. He was sympathetic and said he would reverse the deposit, which was done promptly. While I appreciated his helpfulness, it is obvious that the sales people there are only concerned about their commission, not the reputation of their employer. Be extremely careful about making deposits here or anywhere else. Once they have your money, you're at their mercy. My wife and I were absolutely sick to our stomachs throughout this whole ordeal and it'd be a shame if anyone else has to endure this. Thanks for reading.
After calling Dexten to explain the circumstance, and that we wouldn't be able to drive down and finish the deal, he became uncooperative. I explained that we needed our $500 deposit back to help pay for the costs to repair our vehicle. Between her hospital visit, I said, and the vehicle repair, we weren't in a financial position to buy at that time. After trying every ridiculous suggestion (even driving our damaged vehicle down there to trade anyway) possible, he became uncooperative when I insisted we needed our $500 deposit back. He continued to give me the run-around, saying that the deposit was non-refundable even though he told me in a previous conversation that it could be refunded if there were any problems. I explained our situation was a problem and we needed it back. After a heated argument, I asked him again to resolve the situation and he said he would speak to a manager about it, though he thought it couldn't be done.

Overall, my experience was negative. I had dealt with Dexten in used car sales, who was accommodating as long as things were going smoothly. Long story short, in the week before we were driving down to buy, my wife hit a pheasant with our trade vehicle. Not only was she somewhat shaken and lightly injured, but the vehicle was inoperable due to a punctured radiator. The quote from the body shop to repair it was fairly expensive, but still lower than our deductible.
